It has rained (lightly) off and on today. The construction crew #2, responsible for the walls and roof of the new building finished their work early this afternoon. Now, we wait for crew #3 to install the big overhead door. John has the wiring into the new building, but now some lights and outlets and power for the big door must go in. If the rain continues, he will have that ready when crew #3 arrives.

This was crew #2. They did a great job erecting the walls and roof. Five brothers working together, very efficient and fast.
We had an intruder up in the rafters of the new building this morning… a raccoon has climbed up there, and we could not coax or force him down. Once the big door is installed, this fellow will have to find a different address to hang out!
The NH3 is all applied, finishing on Friday. We took the day off on Saturday, and got back at it this morning. John washed and stored the Unverferth Renegade applicator bar. We had to rearrange lots of things to accomplish this, but re-arrange we did. It will be so much nicer once the new building is complete. There will be more indoor room to store our machines!
We also removed the JD soybean air drill from storage, and got it connected to the 9R 540 tractor. It took some extra doing to get all the electrical and hydraulic and video connections made. Hooked to this new tractor, I now have 5 cameras on this machine… one in each of the 3 seed tanks, and one on the back of the seed cart, and one on the far back of the air drill. All that video capability is very helpful. The air drill will need its annual lubrication, as well as the steering on the tractor. I’m really looking forward to putting some soybeans in the ground with this set up.

The air cart and drill are connected to the tractor. If we go through a rainy spell, I’ll disconnect the tractor and put it back in storage until drier times. But if not, I’m ready to fill the cart with soybean seed and start #plant24.
We are very happy Boilermakers here at Carnahan & Sons! We are still celebrating Purdue Men’s Midwest Regional win last evening versus Tennessee. A hard-fought game, but we prevailed. This will be Purdue’s first Final Four appearance since 1980! I always told myself if Purdue gets to a FF again, I’d travel there to see it in person. Well, Ben has made the arrangements, and we will be going out to Phoenix to cheer them on! Four of us are making the ‘pilgrimage’… me, sons John and Ben, and Ben’s wife Kierstin. (all of us are alumni). It will be a special time with my sons and one of my DIL’s. I am so looking forward to making this trip! Go Boilermakers!!! Not just for Boiler Nation am I happy, but I am grateful that former Coach Gene Keady (88 years old) is here to enjoy this milestone in a program he helped to build. The joy-filled scenes after the big game brought tears to my eyes. Purdue has a special place in my heart, not just for the basketball, but for the wonderful people that helped me along in my Purdue years. Those great teachers, with world-class reputations, made you feel as if you mattered to them. It was a superb student experience for me. Thank you, Purdue.
Yesterday morning was a very special Resurrection Sunday at Wheatland Christian Church. Every facet of the morning, from sunrise service to breakfast, to worship service and the challenging sermon made the morning one to remember for a long time. We are so blessed to be a part of this almost 149-year-old congregation!
Have a wonderful week.
