The guys are making progress on getting the machines ready for harvest. It is not far off, maybe end of this week, or after Labor Day. So, it’s getting down to it.
We checked on the earliest-planted soybean field yesterday and decided “not today”. That’s when we agreed end-of-the-week or Tuesday. There was so much replant in the soybeans this year, that we may get all the ‘ready’ beans done in a couple days or so. Then, we can move to harvest some corn until more soybeans are ready for us. We plant our wheat crop in the fresh-cut soybean fields… it will be nice to get those acres uncovered so they can be planted to wheat. Our target date for planting wheat begins on September 25.

Further progress has been made with the recently added S780 combine. Today, a couple guys from Hutson, Inc. came by to install the duals. That’s a bigger job than it might seem. The duals had to be removed to haul the combine here from the Hutson location in Mayfield, Kentucky.

Brandon is testing the MacDon header on this combine today. He is doing the necessary calibrations and other stuff to make sure it’s ready on the first day of bean harvest!
Brandon filled the combine with fuel yesterday afternoon. With the DEF added, it’s almost ready to go.
We have the Peterbilt over at Monroe City at Klepac Diesel to work on the air compressor. That’s one of the final steps to get fixed before harvest. With trucks, it seems as if it is always something.
The Mack truck we call “Vanna” has its water trailer removed and the Wilson hopper hooked up.
Brandon D is out with the JD 6145R and R15 cutter mowing riparian strips and waterways and roadsides. It’s a good job to do on days like today when the temperature is near 100ºF!

Brandon has advertised on Facebook for our need for some help to drive trucks this fall. With Brandons’s dad unable to help this fall as he did last year, it was feeling urgent to find a truck driver or two. It appears that the ad has been successful. It brought us 3 candidates, and we have made a commitment to hire two of them. Who says prayers don’t get answered?
