To market…
September 28, 2012 Soybeans are going to market this afternoon. John, Philip, and Brandon are making a trip to ADM in Newburgh, Indiana– about an hour away. This ADM elevator is on the Ohio River. These loads will go toward … Continue reading

Friday again
September 28, 2012 It’s another gray, overcast, damp-feeling morning. October is right around the corner. This last rain event is holding us out of the harvest fields. We could be gathering in corn, but the soil is too soft to support … Continue reading

Rainy day
Wednesday, September 26, 2012 During the night and this morning, we have received 2+inches (57mm) of rain. The harvest is stopped, waiting for drier soil conditions. I am pretty sure the drought is over! John is running the dryer to empty … Continue reading

Corn again
September 24, 2012 Monday came again, and we returned to harvesting corn. All that is left is the replanted corn, and today it was testing about 20-21% moisture. Makes for good harvesting. Had to have a service man, Jarrod Rasche, come … Continue reading

Sepember 22, 2012- John’s 26th birthday. We got a ‘rain out’ last night about 930 pm. We had cut soybeans at the Newman and Steen Hill farms, but discovered some at Steen Hill that were just ‘not ready’– the moisture … Continue reading
Unusual situation
Friday, September 21, 2012 We harvested soybeans the past couple days, working the river bottoms on Wednesday, and the fields around Wheatland, Indiana yesterday. We had some sprinkles of rain yesterday about noon, but it was not enough rain to … Continue reading

Gray Tuesday…
September 18, 2012 It rained all day yesterday, but we only received .32″ (8mm) in the whole rain event. The sun is predicted to peek out this afternoon. Hopefully, that will allow us back into the harvest field!

Gray Monday
September 17, 2012 It’s overcast and light sprinkles this morning. Not a good bean-cutting day. To search for an alternative, we got some hand-samples of the replant corn at Roberson. We got 26.7% when we tested it. A little too … Continue reading

New decor
Many folks know that I am a big fan of US Highway 50. We have lived our whole life along this highway, and in July, my wife Pat and I completed the goal of driving every beautiful mile of it. I think it’s more … Continue reading
