First Day

Wednesday, May 2, 2013

Yesterday was the first day to operate the new soybean planter.  It was a pretty good first day.  There were only a couple glitches… some fasteners came loose on two electric clutches on the air cart.  I was able to continue, and John secured them (I didn’t have the right tools with me in the tractor) at the end of the day.

I began at the Holscher farm, and then moved to the Harvey-Wanda and Steimel farms.  The soil condition at Holscher was ideal, I found some areas a little wetter at the other two places.

The new drill is quite a load on my tractor, I notice that it pulls harder than the previous 40-foot drill.  But it will be okay… we’re not ready to replace the 9330 just yet.

All in all a good day.

It's nice to see some dust on this machine. It plants a swath of 50 feet, or 60 rows spaced 10 inches apart.

This is my view as I plant soybeans. The AutoTrac makes for some straight rows!

Looking back, this is what I see from the tractor seat.

Also, congratulations to our niece, Jenny Hobson-Green of Berea, Kentucky.  She turns 40 tomorrow!
