Snowdrifts

Wednesday, February 10, 2021

There are periods of light snow off and on again today.  But this event is different from Monday’s snow; we have some wind with it this time.  Therefore, we have some drifting snow.  That raises another challenge for us here, so the guys wisely hooked up the snow blower to our JD 7130 tractor.  It took some extra time to do so, the blower is so infrequently used that we store it ‘way back in the truck barn.  The Pete had to come out, along with some other stuff, in order to get access to the blower.  The forecast for the next 10 days indicates some more snowfall and likely drifting.  We now feel better prepared for what is coming.

The blower is run on 540 PTO speed, so the shaft in the back of the tractor had to be removed, turned 180º, and reinstalled.

Brandon puts the Pete back into storage as John begins clearing the lot.

It’s nearly a half-mile out to the county road; working in reverse for that long kinda puts a crick in your neck.  But at least you can stay warm and dry.  John has even installed  a hydraulic motor on the spout so that you can rotate it to change the direction of the flow  without leaving the warmth of the cab.

Remember the old Christmas song?  “Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow”?  We can sing that with more confidence today!
