First shot of N

Friday, January 22, 2021

Today, Nutrien is putting down the first of two applications of nitrogen to our wheat crop.  We plan to add some additional N at a later and appropriate stage of growth.  The nitrogen is in liquid form, 28%, and must be ‘streamed’ on rather than sprayed or spread.  About 45 pounds of N per acre is being applied, with an additive of Ammonium Thiosulfate.  The mix is called NexBlu S.  We are trying hard to set this wheat up for the best yields possible come June!

Evan from Nutrien applies the liquid N. If you look closely, you can see the little triple-streams coming out of each nozzle.

It is much colder today than it was yesterday.  Highs today near 30F, yesterday we hit 53F!  Tonight in the teens.  Possible rain/snow mix tomorrow night and Sunday.  It’s all good.
