Youngest son Ben had his wedding day yesterday (Sunday the 24th). He is now married to Kierstin Veldkamp, whom he met ‘way back in their Purdue student days. They remained friends across the years, and their relationship took off a little over a year and a half ago. Now they are Mr. and Mrs. Carnahan! It is such a happy time for our family.
The ceremony was held at The Sycamore at Mallow Run, a beautiful venue in rural Bargersville, Indiana (about half-hour southwest of Indianapolis). A small crowd of immediate family and friends attended. Even though the crowd was small, there was a great spirit about the place. We got to know the Veldkamps a little better and met some of Ben and Kierstin’s friends. The guests came from as far away as Florida, New York City, Minnesota, Colorado, Oregon, and even Alaska! It was a festive day. Kierstin’s Aunt Marilyn provided the piano music which was superb. I was honored to offer the opening prayer. The ceremony was brief, but sweet and personal and decorous. As the newlyweds desired, we were served from a taco bar for dinner. That was a hit! (I’ll admit when they told us this plan for their menu, I was a bit skeptical– but it was a treat!) The DJ was really great, and we all had a good time on the dance floor. The dance ended on the final song of “Hail, Purdue!” We are eager to see the official pictures. Kierstin (and Ben) did a great job in setting up all the details of their wedding day.
Pat and I hosted the ‘rehearsal’ luncheon on Saturday at the “Taxman” in Bargersville. That was a neat place, with delicious food. The decorations that day were provided by our friends Jerri Prose and Cathy Dhonau, who drove the two hours up to Bargersville, and then set up the décor. Beautiful. Kierstin’s aunts Marilyn, Scherwin, and Renee used those floral arrangements the next day for the wedding, too.
Their wedding website can be found here.
All in all, a wonderful weekend. A happy time. We are blessed.
