January Thunder

Wednesday, January 24, 2018

Yes, it happened.  Again.  Thunder in January!  We were awakened Monday morning by peals of rolling thunder.  It is a rare thing to happen in SWIN, but not impossible.  Thunder in January is also connected to some folklore.  The old saying is, “Thunder in January…Flood in June”.   The last time we remember January thunder was in 2015, and in 2013 before that.  So, you see, it’s not all that rare.  To see an illustration of that particular folklore, see our post for June 28, 2013.

Another story of January thunder is from our post on  January 12, 2013.

We will patiently wait until June to see if this old saying rings true again.

John is working on updating the tips on the sprayer.  He has it in the shop and is giving it a thorough servicing… engine oil change, new filters all around, and correcting the oil levels in the final drives.  He takes good care of that JD 4730, and it shows in the sprayer’s performance.

John works under the belly of the 4730 to prepare it for the long 2018 spraying season.

The snow is gone now… we’ve had some days of near 60ºF temps along with some rain, and the snow has melted away.  It’s 32ºF out there right now, and the wind bites into you as you move around outside.  We are told there is a warm up to the 50s coming again this weekend.  Also, they are predicting a very cold month of February…
