The project du jour is to refurbish the cutting parts on the draper headers. John has brought in replacement “sections” for the knife in each header– the JD 640FD and the MacDon FD75. Each is 40 feet wide. The JD requires 120 and the MacDon uses 160 of the little triangular sections. When this is complete, the cutting parts of each header will be like-new.

Brandon and John bolt the sections to the MacDon knife in the shop. When done, it will be slid back into place in the header. We also store a spare knife in a special holder in each header.
Winter projects like this are a good preventive maintenance idea. It makes for a more productive field time next harvest time!
