This afternoon, you can hear thunder roaring all around, and rain is coming in heavy waves, time and time again.  So far, we’ve received .9″ (24mm), and it looks like it has ‘set in’ to rain all night long.

We had a small window of opportunity yesterday afternoon to do a little spraying.  About 4 pm, on an otherwise beautifully sunny day, the wind died down to <10 mph, which allowed John to spray the cover crops at the Lett and Watjen farms.  We had identified as our first spray priority the stopping of the cover crop growth.  Fortunately, we were able to get that completed in advance of last night’s and today’s rain.

When you compare yesterday’s weather to today’s, you can see a great contrast!

Tuesday evening, John sprays the cover crop at the Watjen farm, located between Wheatland and Bicknell. It was a picture-perfect evening for spraying.  The JD 4730 was working quite well.

Here on Wednesday, you see the rain coming down, and streams of water running off the farm lot. Puddles everywhere!

So, for the 2014 planting season, we have had 4 hours of field work.  It is uncertain when our next window of opportunity will open to allow us to resume field operations.  But when it does dry out, we are ready to make good progress.
