Late yesterday afternoon, about 6, we were driven out from the corn field by rain…twice!

We had just moved from the Pond farm to Cox and began on the end-rows.  An unforeseen and unpredicted heavy rain came along and stopped us.  We could see another of our farm locations, about 2 miles east (Crook farm) with adjoining farmers cutting soybeans.   So, we moved to the Crook farm.  In less than 10 minutes, we were run from the Crook farm by an even heavier rain!   So, we were rained out twice yesterday!   We moved home with all the machines.

After reviewing yesterday’s rain, we think that other locations received no rain, so we will look those over this morning, and decide where to go.  There may be a small field of soybeans ready.

Yield results have been all over the map.  We were delighted with the corn results at the home farm; then at the Pond farm (a flat, creek-bottom field), the results were about 75% of what we had been experiencing.  Too many flood events this summer!  This year, the hilly fields, even though they are harder to manage, are outperforming the flat ones!  But overall, we are grateful for what we are bringing in.

One of the trucks needs to go to the shop for some engine control unit repairs.  It’s acting weird, and when it gets strange, the A/C kicks out.   Trucks.  As I often say, “If there is any farming to do in heaven, there won’t be any trucks!”

Back at the farm, the rain was coming down by the bucket-fulls.  

We will fuel up the machines and look for a place to get back to work today.

At least with yesterday’s rain, I got to have supper at home!
