Calm day

It’s not a hectic day, packed with activity, but things are still happening at Carnahan & Sons today.

Yesterday, I got sorta ‘caught up’ with the bush hog work.  The roadsides look pretty nice right now, and I’ve been to just about every place in the last two weeks.  I think that will do it for mowing before harvest begins.  We will leave the R15 cutter hooked to the 6145R tractor, because there are a few corn fields where we will mow around them after harvesting to clean up the appearance going into winter.

Once I got done yesterday, I took a blower and cleaned off the top of the bush hog very well.  Normally at the end of the day, I just use my gloved hands to push off the debris that collects on top of it while you’re using it.  But yesterday, I took a blower and got all the debris cleared off, even those little bits that cling under the hydraulic hoses and wiring.  After that, I took it over and washed down the top and sides to make it as shiny as possible.  No, this R15 is not “Andyclean,” but it’s not bad, either.  The tractor was washed down too… now parked under roof.

The 6145R tractor is pretty shiny after the wash job!

The R15 rotary cutter (bush hog) cleaned up okay too.

While mowing the waterway at home yesterday, I got this picture of the bins and buildings on a nice day.

Beautiful blue skies over Carnahan & Sons.

It was very foggy this morning.  Crossing US 50 in that thick, soupy fog was quite a challenge!

This fog was even thicker when I got down to cross US 50 about 730 this morning.

Sunsets this week have been amazing.

This one was from Monday evening.

I’m working in the office today, writing the minutes from last night’s elders meeting at WCC.

The guys did a big job yesterday, too.  They cleaned the pits at the elevator.  It’s what we call our most glamorous job… scooping up bucketfuls of spoiled and wet grain that collect down there over the course of a year.  They dump those buckets in the front loader of the backhoe and take it out to a nearby field to dispose of it.  They are greasing the drag conveyors and bucket elevators today.  They also swept clean the hopper-bottom in our bin #5, which is the wet holding tank for the grain dryer.

Little by little, we are nearing fall harvest.  I’d say we are almost there.
