Good Friday April 18, 2025
Boy, oh boy… it’s windy out there. This wind has brought to a halt the spraying for today. But yesterday was a better day than I expected when it started. I was able to spray most of the day, until the wind kicked up at about 4pm.
The JD R4044 sprayer is working pretty well here.
But today, it is parked inside.
The forecast shows a very strong chance for rain tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday. If we do get rain on Sunday, I hope the old wives’ tale doesn’t come true. “If it rains on Easter, it will rain for the next 7 Sundays”. Nope… that would not be good! But we will take whatever He sends, and it will be okay.
The NH3 applications are ‘caught up’ to the flooded areas in the White River bottomlands. Those rigs are parked. Brandon is hooking up the planter, and he plans to run it as soon as practical after this rainy weekend. It will take a couple weeks for the remainder of the flood waters to get completely gone and dry the fields. We will return to applying NH3 as soon as the conditions allow.
Of all the fields to which I’ve applied the soybean burndown herbicide, there is not one that I would plant yet… but several are close. I hope to get some soybeans planted next week, weather permitting. The air cart and drill are fully ready, just need to hook it up to the 9R540 and load the cart with seed.
The wheat crop has had its second and final application of nitrogen. It continues to look quite healthy, and we are hopeful. As the heads begin to emerge, it will require the final application of fungicide. The timing on that application is especially critical.
John and I took a Gator trip this morning, to check on some backhoe work done by Brandon D. Of course, it was done well.
When we purchased that Gator, the kind with a heater and A/C, it seemed like a bit of an indulgence… but it is rare that a day goes by when it doesn’t come in handy!
We send you our best greeting on this Good Friday. May you blessed by the story of our Savior. Happy Resurrection Sunday to you and yours!
