Beautiful day!

Wow!  What a nice day!  77ºF (25C).  Brilliant blue sky.

Super nice, sunny day in SWIN!

I’m working in the office today, writing the minutes from a couple meetings at church last evening.  In addition,  I’m doing the daily bookkeeping.   There was a service man here today from Hutson’s to work on a down-pressure module on the corn planter.  It’s good to get this done before the warranty expires.  The two Brandons are hard at it, fixing tile holes at the Shake farm.  It’s a nice day to do such a task.

They use the backhoe to dig out the area around the tile hole, then a hand shovel to get precise access near the existing tile line.  They cut out the section of the tile with a hole in it, and then cut a new piece to replace the damaged one.  Then, the whole thing is covered back up, and it’s complete.

Brandon D and Brandon K work together to fix the tile holes at the Shake farm. There are a dozen of them to repair there!

As I work in the office today, I have a new decoration made for me by Granddaughter Molly.  She got a 3D printer for Christmas, and she created a grain bin for my desk.  She gave it to me for my birthday, and it’s a great desk decoration.

Yesterday afternoon, I spent some hours at the Dunn farm to burn some cornstalks that had floated up into a windrow during some winter flooding.  The Roberson ditch overflowed its banks a couple times this last winter, and when that happens, the flood waters move the loose stalk residue to where the edge of the water stopped.  This has to be burned, or the soil will take too long to dry out underneath that piled up residue.

A smoky fire…

Also arriving in today’s mail was a thank-you from the SK girls’ basketball team.  Our farm has been a donor for that program for a few years now, and this note of appreciation is especially welcome this year.  They are really great kids, they were a treat to watch all winter, and their year culminated with the first state championship in school history!   This note is a ‘keeper’ for sure!

A thank-you from our State Champion SK Lady Spartans! The coaches’ and players’ signatures make this really special.

As we pass mid-week, we anticipate a cool down on the weekend, but good temperatures return next week.

I have a friend at church who is going to plant some soybeans tomorrow, the 13th of March.  I wish him well… he has made March-planted soybeans happen successfully in the past.  I just don’t have the nerve to do that until the calendar flips one more page!

Hope your day is as pleasant as our day here!
