Last Friday evening, we received some rain. According to the Climate.com report emailed to us on Saturday morning, we received rain on every one of our fields. However, it was anything but uniform! At the Shake farm, Climate reported .1″ (2mm). And at the Freddie farm, 12 miles SE of there, a 2″ (51mm) rain was reported! It appears that the rain began just west of the Shake farm, and as you go east from there, the rain just got heavier and heavier. 1.2″ (31mm) was reported for the Steen farm (near Wheatland) and that exact amount was confirmed by neighbors who live nearby. So, it was a welcome rain event, no matter if it was not the “inch on every field” we would have preferred.
Our plan is to begin corn harvesting on Monday the 10th. We will, at least, ease out into one of the first-planted fields to get a feel for the moisture content. If we find it <23%, we’ll keep marching on. One caveat: the weather prediction for the next week shows rain in every day– Thursday through Sunday! So, as always, the weather will dictate just what we do.
Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend.
Have a great week.
