Winterizing

Friday, October 28, 2016

This day started off at 48ºF, and is supposed to warm into the 70s.  The sunshine is helping get us to that temperature.  Tomorrow, they are predicting temps in the 80s!  Even though we are experiencing some warm late-October days, the guys are winterizing the sprayer today.  Our JD 4730 has completed its work for the year, so it must be prepared for the freezing days that are sure to come.  The 4730 gets stored in an unheated building.  John and Brandon are adding some RV antifreeze to the main and rinse tanks, and will circulate the liquid through the solution system.  In that way, the valves and lines will not freeze and crack during the frigid SW Indiana winter.

They use the forklift to bring the antifreeze closer to the tanks where the pink liquid is needed.

Sure, it doesn’t quite feel like winter today, but we know for sure it’s coming.

The trucks will return to the roads in November, as corn and soybeans that have been contracted for that month will be delivered.

The fall fertilization program for the 2017 corn and soybeans has nearly been completed.

Last evening, we went to our annual “Harvest Dinner” at Bobe’s Restaurant in Washington, Indiana.  They prepare fabulous steaks, chicken, fish, and Italian specialties.  There were 11 of us who could attend, and we enjoyed a good meal together.  The team celebrated the conclusion to another harvest.  It’s one way to show appreciation to the families of those who make the harvest season go well at Carnahan & Sons.  Thanks to all the team for your diligence!
