We checked on some soybeans and corn today to see how soon we’d be in the field harvesting. After reviewing the earliest-planted fields, it still looks like a week-or-so away. That ‘feels’ close!

Brandon pulled some ears from the Roberson farm, just east on IN 550. His moisture test reported at 25.5%. It’s our experience that you take this sample and add 2 points to get the moisture reading that gathering all the ears would give. These look pretty uniform, not much ‘nose’ or ‘tip-back’, and just a little trace of disease.

A nice sample ear of corn. At 25.5, we are hoping the sunshine will rapidly dry this down to <20% moisture in about 10 days. Hopefully, we can cut some soybeans next week, and continue to allow the ‘solar dryer’ to do its work!
We believe we are fully prepared to begin harvest. Of course, there will be last-second adjustments to the combines. We also have a new system this fall, with the Climate Corporation’s FieldView Cab in the combines….this will capture harvest information in a platform that can share and consolidate information from both our JD and C-IH monitors!
Hopefully, we’ll soon have some action shots to share from #harvest16.
Stay tuned!
