The sun is shining brightly this morning after a wet holiday weekend.  Sunday and Independence Day were very rainy days.  Depending on the exact locations, our fields received 2.6 to 3.0 inches (66 to 76 mm) of rain.  That rain amount should knock back our concerns for drought for a couple weeks!  Because the rain came over two days, there was not much runoff.   The heavier Sunday evening rain filled some WASCoBs, but that has all drained away.

Looking west from the office this morning, the soybeans are appreciating the healthy drink they received over the holiday weekend.

This week will not be too hectic with activity, for the rain has delayed our ability to get the bush hog out for a few days.   The work done Saturday  along US 50 made the fields there look more ‘presentable’.  I like to mow those locations in particular ahead of the annual “Wheatfest” at Wheatland, Indiana, which will be held this coming weekend.

Turn onto IN Hwy 550 from US 50 and you’ll go into the town of Wheatland. That’s our church there on the left, Wheatland Christian.

Do you notice the improved roadside appearance?

Yes, this weekend’s rain did much to further the progress of our 2016 corn and soybeans, but we still recall our dad’s admonition from long ago:  “Don’t start writing checks on it just yet.”
