Cold morning

Monday, January 18, 2016

When we started the day, it was 5ºF (-15C).  This is our coldest morning so far this winter.   The sun is shining, and the frozen ground keeps the roads and farm lot clean and clear.  The wind is calm, so the temperature doesn’t feel quite so bad.  Warmer daytime temperatures, between 30-35 are predicted for later in the week, but for now, we’ll take this cold snap!

It's a beautiful winter day at Carnahan & Sons.

John is washing his pickup to day, to remove the salt and grime of the past several days.

John’s wash job should ‘keep’ for a few days, but snow is predicted again for Wednesday and Friday.  Because of the current forecast, we will install the snow blower on the JD 7130 tractor tomorrow…. just in case.

I met with our crop insurance guy this morning to clearly understand how we want to set up the ‘units’ this year.  Some changes seem to have been made arbitrarily last fall, so I’m trying to figure out what is correct and get the system spelled out before we get to planting season…which is 90 days (or less) away!
