It ‘s the end of another week of beautiful weather, but the nights are getting quite chilly here. The first frost of the season is predicted tonight, and tomorrow night they say will get down into the 20s! It’s okay… it’s October. The late soybeans will be okay from this frost, and it will speed their ripening process.
We began the clean-up process this week, working on the little conservation drill, the grain cart, the MX290, and the JD corn head. The little JD 1560 NT drill and 290 were washed, along with the grain cart. The corn head was cleaned with compressed air, then the gathering chains were oiled. Those items are ready for winter.

The grain cart got washed. It was easier this year, because there was never a time when it had to run in the mud. Notice the back wheel of the 9360R? No mud, just dust…

In other good news, the rye and radishes cover crop at the Lett and Watjen appears to be growing and healthy.
This cover crop mixture was planted by airplane about 10 days ahead of the soybean harvest. It seems to be getting a good start!
October is a beautiful time in southwest Indiana. Even though harvest is complete, the trees have not yet reached their peak of color, but that will come in a few days. The skies have been brilliant blue and cloudless for many days.

Bill and Brandon were quite busy with the trucks, delivering corn to GPC at Washington, and soybeans to ADM on the Ohio River at Newburgh, Indiana.

John even took the time to install a new flag on top of one of the elevators. It’s lighted at night, and looks great. The previous one was getting a little tattered… it takes a battering up there in the winds!
