Rainy day

It started raining about 8 this morning.  When I went out to pick up the newspaper, I could see it building in the west.

Soon, the rain began to fall.  Gentle and soft.  It was a welcome sight and sound.  The patter of the raindrops on the roof and on the ground is a happy sound today.  It has been so very hot and dry for quite some time, with little measureable precipitation  for about a month.  The heat helps the corn dry down, but it may be removing some test weight from the later-planted soybeans.  This will help today.  We have long thought that a rain just before soybean harvest helps them ripen better too… whether it physically knocks off some leaves or just dampens the stems, the soybeans seem to dry better after a rain.

You can see the rain coming down and the small streams of run-off coming across the farm lot.

I was able to skip mowing the yard last week, but it’ll be back on the list as soon as this rain dries out.

#Harvest15 is soon to arrive.
