Snow again… one more time

Wednesday, March 4, 2015

We took Ben to the Evansville, IN airport (EVV) this morning for his return trip to Seattle.  He’ll take up where he left off a couple weeks ago with his aerial imaging work for Air America Flight Services.  His flight yesterday was delayed enough to miss his Seattle connection at Detroit, so he went out today.

Coming home today, I-69 was a slick and slippery mess.  The morning rain turned first to sleet, and then soon to heavy snow.  It was a long time to get back home.  The 2.5 hour trip ended up taking about 6.

I-69 Northbound from Evansville. We saw 6 slide-offs and the aftermath of two collisions.

Probably won’t be school in Knox County tomorrow!

This may be winter’s last gasp… the forecast shows temperatures in the 60s next week!  But it’s not unusual to experience snowy days in early March.  It’s high school basketball tournament time in Indiana… and ‘sectional week’ can often bring a blast of winter!

On one such ‘sectional week’ many years ago, the snow was so deep we could not get a vehicle or even a tractor out our lane. So, we walked the half-mile through the snow to the neighbor’s house… he could get out, and we rode to the game with him.  Would we have missed the game because of bad weather?  No way!
