Today, after PT at the local hospital, John and I will go to the BMV to arrange for the title and registration on the new pickup. They called me yesterday morning from Dobson Ford in Washington telling me that the new F-150 was ready. We went in the afternoon to bring it home. There are many new features to learn. Even some of the ones I learned on the 2010 model (like the navigation system) look and operate differently on this new pickup. We placed the order in November, and it took until now to get it here.
I’ve heard about ‘boys and their toys’ again and again.
Corn is being delivered today to ADM in Newburgh, IN. Brandon is keeping the Peterbilt busy. The day should warm up and the light snow of Thursday night will disappear.
This afternoon, the delivery guy from Sloan Implement at White Hall, Illinois brought us a JD 1560 drill. We have been searching for a good used drill to use in the fall to plant wheat or rye in valleys to reduce erosion. We found this one on the internet. Even though it cost a bit more than we expected, it was a good find, in good condition. This 1560 is a 2000 model. So far, we’re pleased. This was a rare thing for us… to purchase a machine without first seeing it in person!

John uses the 7130 tractor to ease the drill down off the trailer. Welcome to southern Indiana. little John Deere! Notice how the big semi has been separated from the rest of the delivery trailer, allowing the drill to be pulled forward.
John was able yesterday morning (while the soil was frozen) to go to the Burke farm with the Phantom2 UAV to get some video of the location where drainage tile was installed last fall. We are trying to edit that footage, and then get it posted on YouTube. This photographic record will help us if we need to specifically locate this underground drainage system in the future. He took video from about 150 to 200 feet above the field.
It has also been a good week for Purdue basketball fans. The Boilermakers have won 4 straight games, including an important win over rival Indiana, and most recently, Ohio State. It’s amazing how a few wins can change our attitude… the team is looking better than it did during December!
Have a good weekend.
