In a 2-hour meeting this morning, we made our seed decision plan for 2015.  We sat around the conference table with Jeff Jackson (neighbor and dealer) and Troy Clawson (Monsanto rep) and determined what our seed-buying needs will be for the next crop.  It’s one of the major decisions we make for the year.  Input from these consultants, along with our personal experience and the records of past hybrid/variety performance on this farm are factors in these decisions.  We chose three corn hybrids and three soybean varieties.  We will likely add another bean variety from a different seed company when we meet with that dealer tomorrow.

Brandon is out there today washing the ‘undercarriage’ of the combines.  Once that is completed, he will bring the combines into the shop, one at a time, to wash the ‘skin’.  At least some of this task will be accomplished in the warm shop!

Our contractor, Mr. Olan Worland,  installed yesterday a new entrance/loading site at the Roberson farm.  He added 100 feet of 30″ culvert along Evans Road, to create the new site.  After the back-filled culvert area ‘settles’ this winter, we will add a layer of  crushed stone next spring to finish off the project.

This is a new and enlarged entrance to the Roberson farm. When this field is muddy during harvest, we will also be able to park trucks on this site to load them.  Here, Mr. Worland is in the process of covering the black culvert pipe.

It’s drizzly and chilly today, looks like a winter day in Oregon.
