Another Friday

July 11, 2014

Roadside mowing continues, and bin #7 of wheat is ready to be swept out.

Tuesday evening, just about dusk, we were returning home from Bicknell... when these colorful clouds captured our attention. The picture does not quite show the brilliant colors above this wheat/DCB field.

A rain would be welcome, and there’s a chance of rain on Sunday.  The days seem hot, (it’s 86ºF, perfect for corn and soybeans when there is an abundance of moisture) but not like 2012.  Back then, we had 11 days in July of 100F+ temperatures!  A couple cool days are predicted early next week, highs in the low 70s.   That will be helpful for all this corn that is currently pollinating.

The DCB fields are looking pretty good.  It’s great to see those beans coming through the wheat stubble.  A year ago, we were still planting and replanting soybeans.  The yield potential for the DCB crop should be > the 2013 crop!

DCB at the Waldo farm, planted June 22. Looking pretty good!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, there was the yard that needed to be mowed.

My view Thursday afternoon. Not much grass growth this week, but the yard looks better after this task.

We are ready for a relaxing weekend.
