The post-harvest clean-up continues. Nicolas is out on the Gator spraying riparian areas with Select herbicide. This will stop the johnsongrass, but permit the fescue to thrive. John is busy today, applying the first herbicide pass of Roundup+Warrant to the double-crop soybeans (DCB).
Haley finished with her work on the ditch maintenance, using a special herbicide called Crossbow that will stop the growth of woody species in our ditches. She has spent several days on the ‘suntan machine’, our name for the old Allis-Chalmers D-15 tractor we use for this task. Now, she is clearing the concrete under the dryer.

Haley is cleaning up the chaff and grain from under the dryer before it has a chance to become smelly.
It’s a gorgeous day in southwest Indiana. The clouds are like “Andy’s room” in the Toy Story movie. It’s quite warm without being blistering hot. And you should see the clouds of blinking neon-green lights at dusk… the lightning bugs are plentiful, and they put on a spectacular light show every evening at about 930-10pm. It’s like a gazillion little green LEDs out there.
