Wheat harvest began today!
The new combines went to the Dunn farm about 10 am. We each discovered some glitches… Ross an oil leak and me a sensor on the steering that was installed out of place. At one time in the afternoon, we had two service trucks here with mechanics… Jason from Wright/Stemle (JD) and Brad from JL (CIH). But even though these things required the expertise of trained servicemen, they were each fixed in about an hour and a half.
We completed all the acres of wheat at the Dunn farm at about 7 pm, and moved home. We called it a day. We fueled the combines, and used the leaf blower to clear the chaff, and unloaded the remaining truck. John stayed around to monitor the dryer.
We will sign papers for a new farm purchase tomorrow, and take possession of the Dunlap farm this fall. It’s just 37 acres, but it’s a nice addition in the neighborhood.
We have a tentative plan for tomorrow. Mine will include planting DCB. (double-crop soybeans).
