There’s frost on the ground this morning.  But it did not get quite as cold as predicted…33F rather than 25F.   I think there will be no concern about damage to the wheat.

Will make a circuit around some of the fields this morning to see if the soil is dry enough to support the sprayer.   Sure would like to get more of that done.

It feels a little urgent to get the soybean acres sprayed with its Roundup and residual herbicides, as well as getting the Harmony herbicide applied to the wheat crop.  The corn acres that have had the NH3 applied are also ready for their herbicide application.

Since we’ve had this cold spell, we are okay with the fact that we have no corn or soybeans planted.  You really only get one chance to do it right, so we wait for warmer and dryer conditions.  Then again, according to Ecclesiastes 11:4 NLT,   farmers who “wait for perfect conditions, will never plant”.

The arrival of Easter is a milestone for farming in southwest Indiana.  You often hear farmers say they “don’t expect to get much done before Easter.”  Or, “the weather will straighten up after Easter gets here.”   Resurrection Sunday is late in the calendar this year, so we are patient.

One other old saying:  “If it rains on Easter, it will rain for the next seven Sundays”.   Right now, there is no rain in Easter Sunday’s forecast!
