A milestone for the day

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

We received a quarter of an inch of rain (6mm) yesterday, and the cloudy and cool (69F)conditions continue this morning.  It just feels damp out there.  This restricts a bit of our outdoor work of mowing, spraying, and bush-hog cutting until the sunshine returns.  But we can use today to send wheat to market at ADM in Newburgh, Indiana.  Newburgh is an Ohio River town, just upstream from Evansville.

Haley is loading the truck that Brandon will be taking to ADM in Newburgh. It's a little over an hour south of here.

Today is also our dad’s 100th birthday.  Lowell Carnahan, for whom the farm business is named, was born to Welker and Rose Carnahan on this day in 1913.  He passed on in 1999, just a few days short of his 86th birthday.  In the 14 years since then, the farm has grown and our use of technology has increased.  I think he would be pleased to see the what and how of Southern Indiana farming in the 21st century.  We think of dad often, but especially today, when he would have reached this milestone birthday.
