A hard-driving rain drove us from the corn field last night. We were just a few acres from finishing the Holscher farm, when the spectacular lightning show got our attention. A quick check on the phone to view the radar, showed a band of red coming our way. So, we detached the corn head from the combine, and took all the trucks and machines and headed home. Along the way, about 2 miles from the field, the big drops began to splash the windshield of the combine, and I needed the wiper all the way home. Before pulling into the shed, I could see the rain going sideways! It continued past midnight, and we got another 1.66″ (42 mm).
It’s sunny today, a good day to run the dryer for yesterday’s harvest.
I’m going to say something I haven’t said in a long time. I hope it doesn’t rain for a while!
I believe the drought is over.
