One last thing…

One last thing to prepare for fall, and John and Brandon D did it this morning.  They got the JD 2660VT implement hooked up to the 9R540 and lubricated it.  The tractor is filled with fuel and DEF.  John prepared a set-up file for each 2026 wheat field that we plan to plant starting September 25.  He used a new-to-us feature called “Work Planner” in JD Operations Center.  Because we know which wheat variety is going into each of the 21 fields, John set up each field with its variety, the operator (Larry) and any other necessary information.  That way, when Larry arrives in a field, he just accepts the Work Planner set up and gets right to work!  This should be a great help to him and it will make more certain correct wheat planting information is recorded.  Our seed and fertilizer supplier at Nutrien at Wheatland applies the granular fertility with the seed blended into it.  Then, this tool works it into the soil uniformly.   We plan on planting about 2M wheat seeds per acre.  It can vary from 1.8 to 2.1M, depending on the seed’s variety and the soil conditions.  We have arranged for 4 different Dyna-Gro wheat varieties, two with which we are very familiar and two new ones.

The 43.5 foot wide 2660 VT tool folds up nicely for storage or transport.

In field position. Each gang angle can be changed from the seat from 0 to 12º. Ideal operating speed in the field is 8 mph, rather fast for farm work!

I think this is the last piece of the puzzle in preparation for fall #harvest25.

Have a lovely weekend.  It’s predicted to be a pretty hot one here, 95ºF (35C).  We hope that cooks out some of the moisture in the corn and dries down the soybeans so that we can get started on them by Wednesday or so!
