Pat and I returned Tuesday evening from the 2025 Commodity Classic in Denver. Brandon and Emily also went. We arrived out there on Saturday evening, just in time to attend Nutrien’s “High Yielder” event. Brandon and I received a plaque for our Indiana 2nd and 3rd place wheat yield. It was a really nice banquet, held on the 38th floor of the Grand Hyatt Denver. All the outside walls were glass, giving a remarkable view of the city’s lights.
The trade show at the Classic is, IMO, the best show anywhere. The quality of the exhibits is top-notch, and the people there to explain their products or services are experts. When you have a question, you are never given an 800 number or website… there is a person on site that is fully informed to give you the information you seek. That has great value to me. On Sunday evening, Pat and I also got to hear an address by the new Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins. She was enthusiastic about her new role in the new administration.

New Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins, spoke for about a half-hour to an overflow crowd on the Main Stage at Commodity Classic

This fire suppression kit on a grain cart caught my attention. It could help in the field until the fire department arrives.

Brandon and I liked the Elmer’s grain cart, but it is not yet available in Indiana. We discussed with their representative how that could happen.
Although we are not directly ‘in the market’ for any specific new machine or service in this particular year because of the depressed commodity prices, it is still valuable to see the latest things and get your questions answered. It can help you plan for improvements to be made years in advance.
The weather here on Wednesday (yesterday) was really tough. Strong winds…and snow! The day started out at 50ºF (10C), but the temperature fell all morning and the snow came down, but it was blowing mostly sideways! There was a little snow left on the ground this morning, but it’s all gone now at 44ºF (7C). The weather guys are telling us it will be 72ºF (22C) here by Tuesday! Indiana weather…
While we were away, the local Nutrien plant was able to get the first application of nitrogen applied to the wheat crop. It took them a couple days, but that layer of NextBlu nitrogen is now at work!
The grain bins are getting quite low now, not many more trips to make to Newburgh.
