It’s only 10ºF (-12C) out there, but we have corn to deliver to GPC. So, the two Brandons have their trucks loaded and they’re ready to go. They spent all day yesterday washing the Tony and Pete trucks and their trailers…getting the salty grime off from recent previous trips. Since the temps are this cold, the trucks oughtta stay pretty clean today and tomorrow. But by Friday, temps are predicted to be in the 40s, and that will make for some messy times here. Even so, we will use this chilly day to make some deliveries.
For the past couple of afternoons, the temps have gotten in the upper 20s, and that allowed some small amount snow melting. Icicles are forming on those afternoons.
Recent moves in the commodity markets are causing us to make some minor changes to our cropping plan for 2025. We are upping our corn acres, and decreasing our soybean acres… just a little bit… about 5%. There are agronomic reasons that we make this change too–namely reducing the places we have soybeans in consecutive years.
If you’re in the Midwest like us, you’re in for a really cold night tonight. Be prepared!
