After running the rotary cutter a bit yesterday, Brandon D put the thing in the shop this morning, and took the time to sharpen the 6 blades. Now, it’ll cut even better. The blades were new last year, but they seem to wear quickly. I think today is the second time they’ve been sharpened. Isn’t that one of the seven habits of highly effective people? Take time to sharpen your saw. You’ll get more done, and do an even better job. That principle applies to many other things. That’s one of the reasons we put so much effort into pre-harvest servicing of the trucks, tractors, and combines. With a little extra effort up front, those things will run better and longer when you really need them. My dad used to put it this way, “Take care of your machines, and they will take care of you.”

The R15 rotary cutter, more commonly known as a bush hog, gets some service this morning. Look at the sparks fly!

Brandon D is putting a nice, sharp edge on the blades… then he will bolt them back into place. Brandon K is helping him remove and re-install the blades.
We got a little bit of rain this morning… .03″ It’s not much, but it allowed the air to cool down at least for the cloudy morning. Temps stayed in the low 70s while the clouds covered the sky. But this afternoon (3pm), the full sun is beating down, and it’s 96ºF (36C) and the ‘heat index’ is 112ºF (44C).

About 10 am, as Pat and I were returning home from her PT session, the skies looked very threatening. We received .03″ of rain. Not a lot, but glad to get it.
This heat is supposed to stay with us through the week, with a tiny chance of rain Friday-Saturday. The forecast for next Monday and Tuesday is for highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. That will feel like fall for sure!
John is out spraying herbicide on the DCB this afternoon.
In this screen capture of JD Operations Center from my iPhone, you can see where John has been today. It’s good to see that not every acre of DCB needs this herbicide…that will save some $.
Keep cool.
