Completely MT

Tuesday, August 20, 2024

The final load of wheat went out the driveway this morning.  Brandon D took the Tony truck to Evansville, ADM First Avenue, and in it was the remaining bit of 2024 wheat.  The last load of 2023 corn went out last week.  Therefore, we are completely MT (empty) of grain here at the farm.  Brandon says we’re ready now to start filling it back up with the 2024 corn and soybeans!  That’s not far off…3-4 weeks.

Out goes the last load of wheat.

Before taking off this morning, Brandon D checked the tires all around to make sure they’re inflated properly for the trip. He is thoughtful and thorough.

Brandon D sent me this from the ADM elevator in Evansville. That’s a wrap on #wheat24!

Brandon has begun to prepare the combines for fall harvest.  The older S780 combine is in the shop and he is removing the extra concave-filler bars and separator grate covers.  It’s kind of a big task to do so, and the grate covers on the right side of the combine are especially hard to access and remove.

This S780 will soon be ready for harvest.

These are the parts that have been removed from the separator of the combine. They are only needed during wheat harvest.

This afternoon, Brandon D is assisting Brandon with greasing the combine.

The headers will be serviced and set for soybeans soon.

This RD40F header will need some changes to be ready for fall harvest.

The JD RD40F header will need the flex cutterbar lock-up bolts removed.  Also, the header height control sensor wiring connectors will need to be re-routed from off-the-ground to on-the-ground.   The MacDon header will also be serviced.   Don’t you like the manicured look of a soybean field after harvest?  It’s like you shaved it with a razor!  Smooth.

The JD C12F corn head will have to come out and be serviced.  Each row unit gearbox must have the oil level checked and corrected.  The gathering chains will be lubricated, and the header height system checked for proper operation.  The 712F corn head was serviced last fall, but was not used…so it should be ready already.

I got the roadside mowing kind of caught up yesterday.  I mowed along US 50 and IN 550 at Wheatland, and it looks much better.  I may touch that up one more time in September if there is time and opportunity.

I like to keep the roadsides along our farms looking ‘cared for’.

I will probably be more infrequent in posting here for a few weeks.  Pat is going in for a knee replacement tomorrow, and I will be home more to assist her.  I’ll be back when I can.  Please pray that she goes through this operation and recovery in a good manner.

Have a good week.
