continued…

The typical stuff continues.  Corn and wheat are being delivered.  Roadside mowing is occurring.  Spraying of fungicides on soybeans.  Spraying field borders and ditch banks from the Gator.

I noticed yesterday when I was mowing down at the Freddie farm that the soybeans look especially nice right now.  Yes, there is a few waterhemp weeds scattered throughout the field, but the beans are uniform and healthy green.  They got their fungicide treatment on Tuesday.  I think John plans to put another application of Liberty herbicide on them later today.

The soybeans at the Freddie farm. Lookin’ good right now!

Just as an aside… the Liberty has not been as effective this year as in the past, and waterhemp is the talk of the neighborhood!  We will likely cut a few of them down with the combines at harvest.

Next week, I’ll try to do the final pre-harvest pass of the roadside mowing.  The following week, Pat will get her knee replacement, and I’ll be home more to assist her.

Also next week, a new employee will begin here.  We have hired Brandon Dreiman to work with us.  We are pleased that he will be coming on to the team, and it is our hope he will be content with his work here.

We will be attending a small, private field day for Asgrow/DeKalb next week.  The smaller setting with fewer farmers makes for a more informative visit, and gets us better and more personally applicable information.  I prefer that to the huge field days with hundreds of farmers in attendance.

Yesterday was pleasantly cool, it got up to 78ºF (25C) with overcast skies.  The humidity was lower, too, making for a welcome respite from the steamy days we’ve been having.  I understand we will hit back about 85 today, but that won’t be too bad either!

Have a nice weekend.
