The wheat got finished yesterday afternoon. Since there was only about 30 acres left, Brandon and Emily and John finished that, while I was planting double-crop soybeans (DCB). It’s good to have another milestone checked off the list.
I hope to get done with the DCB today, and there is a couple little patches of replant soybeans at Commer and Grubb. As I wrap up #plant24, it has felt like a marathon, not a sprint. But with the early harvest of wheat, the DCB are going in earlier, too. Today is my mom’s birthday, and typically it is the day we start wheat harvest. This year, we will wrap it up today!

This is a screenshot of JD Operations Center Mobile, showing my planting work through most of the day yesterday…
Planting DCB on the Steen farm…
Next on the list, Brandon will be spraying sprouts and johnsongrass in some ditches. I will turn my attention to mowing roadsides. John has some post-emerge herbicide spraying in soy beans… which seems like a summer-long task. And Brandon will have the task of cleaning up the planters, tractors, and combines!
But today, we are happy to have wheat harvest on the ‘done’ list!
Have a great day!
