We got out the JD RD40F header in the cool of the morning, and attached it to the new JD S780 combine. After getting the cutterbar locked up, I went through what seemed like a bazillion calibrations. But each one ‘took’ and now I think this machine is ready for wheat harvest. It was just about the final step to be ready to cut wheat next month.

The header is hooked up to the combine, and it is lubricated, set, calibrated, and ready for #harvest24!
Brandon is taking the corn planter to the Huey farm this afternoon to replant some corn. He will spot in new seed where there is a bad stand. The crop insurance adjuster is coming this morning to verify the need for replant, and to authorize the replant payment. It’s not a big payment, but helpful towards the cost. The biggest cost of replant is the corn getting started at a much later day on the calendar. This reduces its yield potential, as much as 1 bushel per day after May 15. But a reduced yield is better than having bare spots in the corn field that would have zero potential! I sure hope this is the final day for replanting corn. There is a little bit of soybeans that will need replanted, but the biggest urgency is getting 4 more fields planted the first time!

Brandon is about halfway done with this replant field. He must drive over the entire field, but drop in his planter about 40% of the time. The green lines show exactly where he has driven…
The fields that need to be planted to soybeans are still much too wet to do so. The soybean planter is filled and ready to go, we just need some favorable (drier) conditions to get it going again.
Since I cannot plant soybeans yet, I’ll take some hours in the afternoon today to mow roadsides. Not a money-making operation, but it makes me feel better to have the fields appear that you’re taking care of them.

These two fields at Wheatland will look nice when we go to church on Sunday. That’s our church in the background, Wheatland Christian Church.
Have a lovely weekend!
