Preparations began yesterday for the fall harvest.  Brandon got out the CIH 8250 combine to clean it up and make the internal adjustments and changes to switch over from wheat to corn/soybeans.  It should not take long to make the changes.  The John Deere will come out after this one is all prepared.

I’ve been working on the roadside mowing.  Not only the roadsides get a haircut, but also the waterways and riparian strips on ditch levees.  It takes several days to get around all the fields.  No, that effort does not add to the bottom line, but it sure makes me feel better to have the sides of the roads look ‘cared for’.

We discovered a leak in the gas line that feeds the dryer.  Using the expertise of our gas supplier, we replaced the line, placing it in a conduit for protection.  Hopefully, this will last for many years.

We are in the process of interviewing candidates for a full-time farm tech position here.  We’ve had 4 candidates to interview so far, each one with particular strengths.   It is a complicated thing to write a job description, and discover a compensation package that is affordable for us and workable for the candidate.   We are learning more about what is important to each candidate, and we try to tailor the situation for each one.   Hopefully, we will make a connection with one of these people, and begin a long-lasting work relationship.   We are confident God will provide just the right person to fill the position.

The days are trending a bit cooler this week, hinting at fall.  It is a welcome transition.
