Yes, we were able to get some of the final application of nitrogen on the wheat yesterday. Just a tick under 40% went on yesterday. And, no, the soil conditions were not perfect, finding a few soft spots in the fields. But it does feel good to have this much of the wheat acres topdressed, and we hope to get the rest done very soon.

The second and final shot of nitrogen should give the wheat a good and healthy boost and improve its yield potential here at the Shake farm.
The final trip over the wheat crop will occur at “flag leaf” stage, when an application of fungicide will help keep the head development healthy.
Today’s rainy period keeps us from the field. But John is working on the nitrogen (anhydrous ammonia) metering system on the JD 2510H applicator to replace a filtering component. We will be ready when the sun shines again!
Brandon is out on I-69 delivering corn to market at ADM on the Ohio River.
