Shop work and other stuff.

It’s cooler today–  47ºF (8C)  —  but the sun is peeking through a partly cloud sky.  After yesterday’s trip to Owensboro, Kentucky to acquire the final major component of the new water trailer set-up, John is working in the shop today to work on that project.  He made a stop at Lowe’s today for some boards and plywood.  He is building a platform that covers some of the hose routing, and elevates the operator to more easily reach the inductor.  He has had this plan in his mind for months now, since the arrival of the new Demco trailer, and it is very interesting to watch it all come together.  It will soon be ready for a test run.  In just a few weeks, we will be using it to begin herbicide applications for the wheat and the initial burn-down herbicides for corn and soybeans.  This trailer is the main support for the sprayer, and it is a busy tool throughout the spring and summer.

This cone-bottom inductor tank was delayed in its arrival from January to just yesterday.  It is good to have it now in place, and to watch John incorporate it into his plan.

The substructure to the platform is coming together.

John’s system will accommodate up to 5 mini-bulk containers, space for packaged chemicals, a receptacle for empty bags/jugs/boxes, and a rinse system.  He can control each individual tote of chemical from a central location, and there even is a solar panel to refresh the trailer’s batteries.

Two hoses remain to be connected, on either side of the pump.

Brandon is on his way to Frankfort, Indiana today to take one of our Wilson trailers there for some significant repairs.  Weeks ago, a back tire on this trailer came apart at highway speeds, and it bashed the back end of the trailer.  It will be good to have this repair completed soon, and get that trailer back into service.

The bad tire really messed up the back end of the trailer. It’ll look like new very soon.

Bill is out in the Vision delivering corn to ADM down at Newburgh, Indiana–on the Ohio River.  Local markets have not been able to compete with ADM’s bids for the past several weeks.  So, we make the trip to the river market, about 1.5 hours away.

Loading Bill’s truck today…

It’s high school basketball ‘sectional week’ here in Indiana.  The sectional is the first stage of the 4-week state tournament.   Each of the 4 classes of schools has 16 ‘sectionals’.  The winners of the sectionals meet the following Saturday at ‘regional’.  They play 2 games that Saturday to become a regional champion.  Each class has 4 regional champions.  Those  winners meet the next Saturday for a one-game ‘semi-state’.  There are 2 semi-states in each class, and those winners meet the last Saturday of March in Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for the state finals, where champions of class 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A are crowned.

Our local team, the South Knox Spartans, begin play on Friday evening at the North Knox sectional.  They are favored to reach the sectional final game on Saturday, but will  likely face Linton, which is ranked #5 in 2A.  It will be a tough –but not impossible– for SK to get by Linton.   SK lost to Linton in a very low-scoring game back on Feb 14.   We are hopeful…go Spartans!
