Another January Monday

January 24, 2022

The day started out cloudy and chilly.  Even though it is now above freezing at 37ºF (3C), the wind just makes the cold air cut right through.  So, it’s a good day to work in the shop and office.  John is now performing a complete servicing of the JD 6130R tractor, with an oil change, filter changes, and lubrication.

The JD 6130R tractor came into the shop for a thorough servicing

John writes the date and hours on the oil filter

John tried to remove a hydraulic cylinder from the backhoe earlier this morning, but one of the pins holding it on the stabilizer wing just would not budge.   Heat and a bigger hammer still wasn’t enough.   He was intending to replace the seals in that cylinder to make it stop leaking oil.  We may have to send it to some professional’s shop to get that pin out!

Brandon is working at the Leser farm to stack up the posts that have been pulled.  He will  also try to stack together the wires and anchors that have been pulled from the posts.  Soon after that, Mr. Worland will bring in his track-hoe (excavator) and bulldozer to begin clearing the row of trees, piling up the brush to be burned, and burying the residue.  He says it will be “no problem” to have it ready to plant soybeans there come April.  Hope so!

Went to our local high school basketball game Saturday night.  Our South Knox Spartans hosted the Thunderbirds from Eastern Greene HS.  It was not a close game and the home team prevailed.  There was a really good crowd that came out for the game, probably around 2500+ fans in the bleachers.  Not a bad number for a high school with 350 kids!

A good crowd showed up for the T-bird vs Spartan game!

At the entrance from the main lobby of the high school to the gym, this mural has been displayed at South Knox for many decades.

Cloudy winter weather has brought us some special scenes at sunrise and sunset.  Here is just a sample from the past week.

Sunrise on Thursday.

Saturday’s sunset.

Even though the camera in my phone does a pretty good job at capturing these images, they really are even more spectacular in person.

Have a good week.
