The weather forecast has no rain in it for about 10 days. With strong winds today, that should aid the fields to dry. Maybe by the weekend, we’ll be back at it. The temp is supposed to go above 70ºF (21C) here today, quite a contrast to the snow and cold of Monday!
The electrician has been here to disconnect the wiring to the old leg, and to install wiring, controllers, switches, and starters for the new service. Those new gray electrical boxes are beginning to fill with wires and their related works. We hope the main contractor will return soon to begin dismantling the old grain leg. The temperature today will be favorable, but the windy conditions may not allow him to work up high.
We are still patiently waiting for our return to the fields. It’s ‘way too soon to panic, but it’ll be nice to get out there again. I toured the prospective corn fields yesterday, and found flooding water patches at the Huey farm. It may complicate the nitrogen application process, with some moving back-and-forth between planting and getting that N applied. Spraying herbicide on wheat and corn and soybean acres will soon kick in, too.
Some April planting still may be possible, but it will extend into May. One way or another, we will do our best to plant as early as practical.
