Yes, it has been pretty nice out there the past few days. We even hit over 70 degrees a couple times. We’ve been using this warm spell to work on the tractors and trucks to prepare for spring planting time. We even took out the backhoe to various fields where trees had fallen out of the fence-row in order to clear those obstacles away. The warm, dry days have allowed us to burn off some of the strips of crop residue that were piled up in winter flooding. We are grateful for this unseasonably pleasant weather.
The ammonia toolbars and the soybean planter will come home today. The toolbars, especially the JD 2510H needs new NH3 hoses. We will also install a new “N-vision” system added to the Capstan N-ject system on the JD bar.

We pulled the soybean planter out to get to the NH3 applicator toolbar. They both went home as part of the ‘get ready’ process for #plant17

Ella went along to assist her Daddy with the move. She enjoys climbing the stairs of the air cart and looking down on us from above!

The tractors and implements start the 6-mile trip back to the main farm. John and Brandon are driving.
Last weekend, I had some great times for my 64th birthday. On Friday evening, we took in the Disney On Ice show at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. After a great supper at Longhorn Steakhouse, we went across town to the show. Our granddaughters, Ella-4 and Molly-2, loved seeing all the princesses! It was a nicely done show. Then, on Sunday, Pat prepared for me all my favorites for lunch. It was similar to Thanksgiving dinner, with turkey and dressing and all the ‘trimmings’. Instead of a birthday cake, we enjoyed a strawberry pie. Yum, yum. Ella and Molly sang “happy birthday” to grandpa. It was a sweet time; the only downside was that Philip and Ben could not be home with us.
Tonight is our last basketball game of the HS season. Our South Knox Spartans will take on the Trojans of Oakland City Wood Memorial HS, a top-10 team in Indiana Class 1A. Boy, oh boy… did this basketball season go by fast!
Tomorrow, I’ll sign the papers for the yield report for 2016 crop insurance. And, we’ll attend a retirement celebration for our JD salesman, Andy Query, at Hutson, Inc. in Jasper, Indiana.
Pat and I are looking forward to Purdue’s last home basketball game next Tuesday against rival IU. Those seats were a retirement gift from my fellow school board members.
Even though it is pleasant and warm today, the weather guys are predicting a return to ‘normal’ on the weekend. I prefer to call it ‘average’ rather than ‘normal’! So we will be having days in the 40s and nights in the 20s. Next week will bring days in the 40s and 50s, they tell us. Compared to the last several days, it will feel like winter has returned to SWIN!
Have a nice weekend.
