The sun has returned to SWIN after a couple cool and rainy days. Even though the sun is back, the warm temperatures are not. Highs today in the 50s, where last weekend, we had temps in the 90s! I’ve traded the shorts and flip-flops for jeans and sneakers. I guess it’s just part of the slow transition to winter.
The clean-up of the machines continues, but it’s less pleasant on this cooler day. So far, the 9360R tractor and grain cart have made it to the wash pad, along with the MacDon platform. The JD 640FD is there now, with Brandon making it look shiny.
The combines will be coming next, but it would sure be nice to have a warmer day to work on them. I guess we’ll be back in the 70’s in a couple days. Thankful for that.
Our attention is turning to the ’17 crop. Ross is searching for some pricing opportunities for a chunk of the new crop, as well as what is now in storage here from this year’s corn and soybeans. Little market rallies are important now, as the margins are so tight. I guess there’s not a time when you cannot be paying attention!
We are grateful to have the harvest behind us, the recent rains reinforced that idea… we got to bring in the ’16 crop with no mud. If the fields are wet and soft during harvest, the enjoyment is not as great, for sure! But again, 2016 was another mostly pleasant harvest time.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
