It is going to be a pretty nice day for the last day of summer, and it will feel like summer, too!  A temperature of 90F (32C) is predicted today.  It was that hot yesterday, and those temps are supposed to last through Friday.

We were off harvest starting Friday afternoon, and returned to the corn field on Monday morning.  It took that long for the fields to firm up after the 1.4″ (36mm) rain on Friday and Saturday.  We worked at the Ross farm, where we were a little disappointed with the corn yields, then we moved back to the Dunn farm–where we were working when the rain hit on Friday.  Corn yields were better at Dunn, especially in the flat field, down off the “mountain”.  We finished that farm on Tuesday about 1130, then moved the combines home to switch over to harvest soybeans.  We spent the remainder of yesterday cutting soybeans here at the home farm, getting those wrapped up about 9 pm.

Returning to soybeans on Tuesday afternoon was a pleasure.

I got a picture of Tuesday’s sunset through the soybean dust kicked up the by the combines. There wasn’t much wind in the evening hours to whisk it away.

We finished just after dark.

Because of the weekend rain, we were able to travel Saturday to Rising Sun, Indiana to watch our BIL John Hobson take part in the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay.   It was a great  event.

John did his part to help the 200th birthday celebration of our beautiful Indiana.

Have a great week.  With the weather forecast, we should be able to harvest soybeans for several days.  What a fun time of year!
