After a cloudy and damp morning, the clouds cleared away today and the temperature went above 90F!  Nicolas and I went out in the Gator in the cool of the morning to spray some ditch banks with Roundup to stop some Johnsongrass.

After topping off the gasoline tank, Nicolas and I are ready to spray some field borders to stop the Johnsongrass.

Then we traveled by Gator to our wheat fields to inspect for maturity.  To our surprise, we found some wheat close to harvest-ready.  We estimate that two sunny days will make some of our fields ripe for harvest.

Nicolas discovered that the wheat was closer to ripe than we expected. He thinks 2 days of sun will make it ‘ready’.

This wheat news spurred some additional work at the shop.  The CIH 8230 came out and had the MacDon header attached.  Some sections were replaced, and the settings were made.  We had some small difficulty to get the farm and field information loaded into the Pro700 screen in the combine.  Four phone calls to AgLeader and helpful advice from Sherry there allowed us to get the desktop software and the combine able to “talk” to each other!

Three trucks were serviced, one flat tire discovered, (off to repair in the morning) and the grain cart hitched up and lubricated… and the rear camera installed.

Tomorrow, the grain bins will be swept, and the elevators greased.  The dryer will receive a check-up and the bearings lubricated.  And they’re predicting a hotter day on Tuesday!
