Today, we are getting one of our grain bins painted.  The crew comes from Memphis, Tennessee.  This painting business by Johnny Carroll comes every summer for the past many years.  The business was started by Johnny’s dad, the late Jack Carroll, and the family continues the painting tradition.  Johnny’s son Jack is in the crew today, and seems interested in continuing the painting business.

The spray wand is fed by a compressor in the truck.

We received .6″ (16mm) rain last night, and it was welcome.  I got a note from a neighbor at Decker, Indiana whose farm received 3+” in an hour last night.  Grateful that didn’t happen here!

The combines are in the shop today being serviced.  The John Deere 9770 has inserts that are being installed in the concave– these inserts improve the quality of the grain when harvesting wheat.  The oil is checked in the engine and hydraulics, the tire air pressures are corrected.  The conveyor chain that lifts grain from the cleaning system up to the grain tank had to have a link removed– the tensioning was at the upper limit, so with the 1/2 link taken out, the proper tension could be made to the conveyor chain.  All the grease zerks were lubricated.  All in all, pretty routine stuff.

The 9770 sits inside the shop ready for servicing.

Gotta check the latest-planted beans this afternoon.
