Road work needed

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Looks like we will turn our attention to improving the condition of our lane.  The 2+inches of rain that came Sunday night/Monday has put off any idea about going to the field to apply NH3.  And it is quite certain that our lane needs attention!  I’ll be calling Mitchell Crushed Stone, and get them to deliver 4 to 6 tri-axle truck loads of stone for the driveway.  Those drivers are pretty experienced at spreading stone on a road.  We can use the 7130 and the Reveal tool to smooth it out.  We will even have one of those loads dumped in a pile here in the farm lot, and use the backhoe bucket to dump and spread more precise spots and pot-holes.

Pat and I have returned from a short adventure to North Carolina.  Ben’s car conked out on I-26 south of Asheville Saturday night as he and his friends were returning from spring break in Florida.  With the help of his friends, and a rental car, he got back to Purdue by Sunday afternoon.  So,  Pat and I borrowed John’s pickup, and with a U-Haul trailer that we picked up in Hendersonville, NC, we retrieved Ben’s car.  We traveled down on Sunday, and back yesterday.  We had no difficulties getting the trailer, or getting the car loaded onto it.

Here we are in Hendersonville, North Carolina, off I-26 south of Asheville. We are loaded and ready for the return trip to Indiana

The trip home was pleasant… that  pickup is so powerful, you didn’t even notice you were pulling a load.  Thanks to all along the way who helped Ben, and who made our quick trip not laden with problems.  We were shown kindness by many folks along the way.  Off to the repair shop the car goes today.

It’s good to see the sun out so bright today.  But it feels chilly.  We enjoyed 78ºF in North Carolina Sunday afternoon!
