Soybean harvest

Wednesday, September 18, 2024

This has  been a good week to harvest soybeans.  Sunny and hot.  The mornings are a bit damp with dew, but once that burns off, the going is good.

I’ll share a couple photos from the week so far.

More from the Dunn farm. The hill there is very steep

Brandon started very early on Monday…

I’ve had a couple issues with the new S780 this week.  There is a warning that pops up on the screen to notify you that something needs attention.   Monday afternoon was a coolant leak, and Tuesday afternoon was a ‘sensor’ in the DEF system.  Sarel Jr. from Hutson came Tuesday for the leak, and this morning for the DEF sensor.  He was very polite and courteous.  He uses Operations Center to analyze the problem, and discover the location of the combine.  Thank you, Hutson’s for the prompt attention.

This hose near the engine was defective, and seeped out coolant.

This entire assembly inside the DEF tank had to be replaced this morning to cure the defective sensor problem.

Neither of these problems stopped me from harvesting.  But I did need to wash off the painted surfaces where the coolant leak drizzled on it.   The repairs could be done in the cool of the morning, before the heat of the day.

Just this morning, I saw a faint hint that the DCB are beginning to turn yellow.

So far, so good.  Soybean yields have been about average, which is good considering how dry the August weather was.  The going has been good, but I confess to being tired at the end of the day!

Have a good rest of your week!
